Earthquake in various parts of India – Kolkata – West Bengal – Assam

A high magnitude earthquake was felt in the eastern Indian states like Assam, west Bengal etc. The center of the earthquake was Bhutan where it was measured 6.3 on the Richter scale. The quake happened 10kms deep and countries like Bhutan and Tibet are also hit. First quake was felt just a few hours before, at about 2:23 PM in the afternoon. Mild tremors were reported in some parts of Kolkata.

Article 377 – Government Leaves Gay Sex Decision on Supreme Court

Divided Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh decided not to interfere with the decision of Court and left the gay sex issue to Supreme Court, which will deal with it on October 1. Delhi High Court had earlier made the gay sex legal by lifting certain things from the article 377 that made homosexuality ok in India.
Dearness Allowance – da for central govt employees to increase by 5 percent

Just before the festive season, dearness allowance or da of central government employees is going to be increased by 5%. The union cabinet took this decision; the da will be now 27.77 of the basic pay. The increase will be effective from 1st July. The employees and pensioners of central government will surely have an extra reason to enjoy the upcoming festivals, however for the government though its going to cost a total of 2,903.55 crore in 09 – 10 and 4, 355.35 crore every year after that.

Jet airways had sacked 2 pilots who tried to make a union in the company. Many jet airways pilots went on a strike, or on holiday as they call it, which resulted in cancellation of lots of flights and it virtually took the entire jet airways to a standstill. Jet airways, however on their part, have told all passengers can get full refunds or they can reschedule another flight on a different date.
Bomb threat in Delhi – Safdarjang Hospital evacuated

The Delhi police station received a phone call; the anonymous call reported bomb threats in 4 high traffic and busy spots of Delhi. The Safdarjang Hospital which was immediately evacuated, the railway station and the other two reported places were – Vikas Minar, NDMC building.
