Hindu Muslim Unity in Marriage – A CID Inquiry

At a time when communal harmony and inter-religious unity have to be promoted and encouraged, given the threat our country faces from external sources that are bent upon destabilizing our country, comes a news item that is an absolute blinder! The news says that the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Maharashtra Police has been given orders to probe into alleged Hindu – Muslim marriages taking place in the rural areas. Apparently the probe was initiated by the minister of state for home (rural) Nitin Raut in response to pressure from two BJP MLAs Devendra Fadnavis and Eknath Khadse who raised this issue in the legislative assembly.
The MLAs alleged that there were a lot of love affairs happening between Muslim boys and Hindu girls that resulted in marriages between the couples. They said that these marriages were part of a larger conspiracy on the side of the Muslim boys and many of these young Hindu brides were even shipped to the gulf regions. The Minister actually endorsed the views of the two BJP MLAs and said these incidents were indeed happening in the rural areas of Maharashtra. He also said that a probe has been ordered into the affair and police are investigating. The CID however has said no probes are in fact taking place though they are aware of such an order being passed.
The CID sources said that they have to refer their codebook to see whether they are legally authorized or eligible to conduct such an investigation of this nature. All this is happening without a single complaint from a harassed or affected Hindu bride. One thing that is not sure here is why this entire hullabaloo about marriages between two different communities? After all isn’t this what our Netas and Babus have been harping about? Don’t we all want an India that is truly without any religious and caste differences, an India that is truly egalitarian and equal? And what better way to achieve this than by marriages between different fabrics of the Indian society? Or is this an ISI plot from across the border and is the Pakistan intelligence agency sending well trained, Hrithik Roshan lookalikes to woo and marry Hindu brides? Food for thought!
