Karnataka – History and Technology

The biggest state among the four southern states of India, Karnataka offers a lot of tourist attractions. The word Karnataka means elevated land when translated to English. The state offers the average tourist an amalgam of interesting tourist places. The state is filled with places of historical significances, architectural beauty and rich culture. The state has a diverse landscape and has a wonderful mixture of flora and fauna.
Bangalore, the capital city of Karnataka is arguably the technology capital of modern India and it also boasts of a vibrant nightlife. The city is filled with pubs, bars and discos where one can unwind after a hectic day’s work. Since the state of Karnataka has a long and rich history, the state is dotted with architectural splendors that reflect the patronage that art received under the rules of the kings of various dynasties. Places like Hampi, Hasan, Halebid, Badami and Shimoga are full of splendid buildings and carvings that reflect the rich cultural tapestry of the various Hindu kings who ruled the state. Bijapur and Mysore have buildings and forts that reflect the Islamic style of architecture. Mysore also boasts of the famous Mysore Palace of the Hindu Wodeyar Dynasty and the famous Brindavan Gardens, which is a beautiful botanical park.
The state is also famous for its numerous waterfalls; among them the most famous is the jog falls. Nature lovers can visit the Bandipur Wildlife Sanctuary, which is famous for its elephants and tigers and also its open top jeep safari. Coorg is a place in southern Karnataka, which is a nature lovers retreat. Karnataka is also a place with a lot of pilgrim interest as well with many famous Hindu temples found throughout the state.
All the tourist spots have good hotels and offer wide ranges of budgets to choose. The capital Bangalore has an international airport with flight connections from all major destinations in the world. All tourist places are well connected by a good road and rail network. The climate varies from place to place but it is always better to avoid the hot summer months of April and May. The majority of people speak Kannada but there are also indigenous Konkani and Tulu speaking people in the southern coastal districts. English and Hindi are also widely spoken and generally English is enough to traverse the state.
