Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka saw some of the most devastating floods and rains in the last few days, which is still going on. At the moment, army, navy and the air force is helping out the affected people of the southern states. The Kurnool and Mehboobnagar districts of the state of Andhra Pradesh are the worst hit where hundreds and thousands of people are affected by the heavy rains and the flooding of rivers like Krishna and Tungbhadra. In Kurnool town, people are still waiting on their roof tops waiting for help to come their way. 1.5 lakh people have already been removed from Kurnool and food centers are being opened.

In Karnataka, as per the reports coming, over twenty five thousand houses are destroyed and 74 people have died so far, and in Andhra Pradesh 30 people have died and over one lakh people are evacuated from the rain hit places.

Army and air force has been working on the relief works. The Karnataka chief minister is in contact with the defense and the home ministry and more helicopters are being brought in to speed up the rescue work. The state has already given a budget of Rs 300 crore so far and is going to set up 98 food distribution centers, apart from that, they will talk to center for more help.

The reasons of the flood is the heavy rainfall while forced the Karnataka officials to open up the dams that resulted in releasing excess water in the river Krishna. Apparently the Andhra is worried about the Nagarjunasagar dam as it too has a limit and the pressure is getting high.

Rains have not only hit lives but also broken communication channels like roads and electricity supply.
