Inline with their user-friendly functionalities that they offer on their mobile phones, Nokia has come up with the 5800, which has hit the markets in India. Not what one would call sleek, the looks can be described as somewhere in between an Apple iPod and the N series mobile from Nokia. The 5800 is called the ‘Express Music’, which implies the thrust area of this mobile, which is music and sound.
Let us look at some special features of this model first. A very good 3.2inch touchscreen (TFT, 16M COL 320*640) and an unmatched clarity even in very bright light conditions, this is perhaps the best feature next to the sound in this model.
The operating system is Symbian and the model comes with a QWERTY keyboard. The model supports another user-friendly feature, the handwriting recognition facility.
The size of the model is not one would say will get an entry into the sleek and chic category of mobile phones. It measures 111*51.7*15.5 mm but it weighs at a comparatively light 109 grams. Overall, the model can be described as a mobile that has tried to integrate special features of similar models from its competitors but failing to get a definitive advantage in any one particular segment over its competitors. Available in 3 different combinations of black/black, blue/black and red/black the pattern is not very aesthetically combined. The mobile company has however improved its sound clarity in this model and this would definitely appeal the younger generation.
Some likeable points of this model are:
- A very good touch screen.
- A very good QWERTY keyboard that facilitates fast and easy typing.
- A faster menu that has a faster access time to sub folders.
- Better software that gets a faster response time from the OS.
Some turn offs:
- The looks are not very attractive but not very bad either.
- The Internet browser is confusing with the surfer not able to know if the next page will open or not in the absence of a task bar.
- Too many home screens that could confuse a user.
All said and done, if you are looking for a user-friendly mobile from a trusted mobile company, at least in India, with a good music player then the 5800 is a good choice.

nice post
Good post. But somehow, I never could like the Symbian OS when it came to net browsing.
For me, the best operating system is Linux because it rarely hangs..”.
