India is a beautiful country rich in natural beauty and places of interest spread across the length and breadth of this country. Since this is a huge country traveling the whole country is a very difficult proposition. The Indian railway system is perhaps the largest network in the whole world catering to millions of passenger’s everyday. This mode of transport is preferred by most of the population as it is cheaper, safer and connects most of the towns and cities. Travel by road is the next major segment and this segment includes the public and private means of travels.
Given that most roads in India, apart from the national highways, which are well maintained, are in a poor condition filled with pits and holes, travel on these roads is hazardous and bone breaking for most. Having said that, travel by public road transportation, is the next best option for the majority. This is due to the fact that this mode of travel is cheaper and most interior places of the country are accessible by road. With many new airline companies opening up every year the prices are expected to drop down making air travel affordable to many.
Traveling still is a way of life for many who are in professions where traveling is a prerequisite and for those kinds of people India offers a mixed bag, ranging from top of the shelf facilities to downright pathetic conditions. With India exploding in the tourism sector, the facilities have to improve to make traveling better and affordable across all segments. Government spending on roads, rail and aviation sectors has to increase manifold to give the India traveler an enhanced experience on par with the rest of the world. All the pros and cons should not deter the ardent traveler from exploring India as the country still is very interesting with many sights and sounds unique only to this country.
